Worrying about what to wear?

Choosing the perfect outfit for your photo session can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! The right clothing not only enhances your photos but also boosts your confidence. Here are some tips to help you select the best outfits for your session.

1. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Gone are the days of everyone wearing identical white shirts and jeans. Instead, opt for a coordinated color palette that complements each other. Neutrals, earth tones, and soft pastels photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you rather than your clothing.

2. Consider the Location and Season

Your outfit should complement your surroundings. If you’re having a session in the mountains, warm and cozy layers work well. For a beach session, flowy dresses and breathable fabrics create a relaxed vibe. Think about colors that will stand out in your chosen environment without clashing.

3. Dress Comfortably & Be Yourself

Wear something that feels like you! If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. Choose outfits that allow you to move freely and reflect your personality. If you’re not someone who wears dresses, opt for stylish jeans and a well-fitted top instead.

4. Stick to Classic Over Trendy

Trendy outfits can date your photos quickly. Choosing timeless styles ensures that your photos will look beautiful for years to come. Simple, elegant pieces with clean lines are always a great choice.

5. Textures and Layers Add Interest

Textures like lace, knits, and linen add dimension to your photos. Layers—such as a cardigan, scarf, or jacket—can create variety in your images and allow for some outfit changes without a full wardrobe swap.

6. Avoid Loud Patterns and Logos

Busy patterns, neon colors, and clothing with logos or graphics can be distracting. Stick to solid colors, subtle prints, or classic patterns like plaids and florals to keep the focus on you.

7. Plan for Movement

If your session involves a lot of movement—walking, twirling, or playing with kids—opt for outfits that flow beautifully and allow for natural motion. Maxi dresses, skirts, and well-fitted pants can create stunning, dynamic images.

8. Don’t Forget the Details

Accessories like hats, jewelry, and shoes can elevate your outfit, but keep them minimal and cohesive with your look. Also, ensure that undergarments aren’t visible and that clothing fits well to avoid constant adjusting during the session.

9. Hair & Makeup Matter Too

Even if you’re going for a natural look, a little extra effort in hair and makeup can make a big difference. A fresh hairstyle and subtle makeup can help enhance your features and boost your confidence in front of the camera. Ensuring that your hair is clean and well-groomed, and maintaining a fresh, polished appearance, contributes to a refined and put-together look in your photos.

10. Lay Everything Out in Advance

Try on your full outfit, including shoes and accessories, a few days before your session. This way, you can make any last-minute adjustments and ensure you feel great in what you’ve chosen.

Final Thoughts

The best outfit is one that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Keep these tips in mind when choosing your look, and trust that your photographer (that’s me!) will guide you to make sure you look amazing in every shot.
